Rugby league

This morning we played tag to warm up.  We all came out with our warm jackets on and after tag game all jackets came off.

We are now working on our foot techniques.  We had to run out passing the ball and side shuffle at the same time with our partners.  Next we had to run straight at an angle, side shuffle to the right than pass the ball. That was a good work out for us.

We learnt that we had to communicate as a team to work together.  P.s every time we lost the challenge our group had to do seven push-ups.

Fraction fun

Today we have been learning all about fractions.  We found fraction of shapes and fractions of numbers.   We have learned what a fraction is and discovered a new mathematical word denominator meaning the number at the bottom of the fraction that tells how many the whole has been shared by.  A few of us were discovering how many ways we can colour a half in a certain shape lots of people had so many different ideas.  We had to have creative minds to complete this task.

Kiwi Sports Rugby League

Today Room 28 started learning rugby league and our coach was Matiu from Sports Waitakere.  He will be teaching Room 28 every Thursday 9 am till 9.40.  We started off today by playing rock paper scissors game.  We had to walk around playing paper, scissors rock and if the person lost they had to hold on to our shoulders and walk behind us.

Next we played a passing game.  We had to run to the middle and pass the ball to the person in front of us.  We had to run at the back of the line and wait for our turn again.

What is Culture?

Today Room 28 children made chickpea patties and coleslaw with Sanitarium Nutrition Service team. We learnt how each plant food belongs to a family. Some plant food families are seasonal and grow better during certain times of the year. Broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts are all part of the brassica family and they are winter vegetables. Jemma explained to us which plant food you can get protein from and why proteins are important for your body.

We worked in groups of seven per station.  Every member had a job and it was special making these vege chickpea patties.  After we had cooked our patties we all sat together with the decorated table all ready for our burgers.  We ate and ate.  Some children found the sweet chili sauce too chili and went running out for water.
